Senior Golfer Tries to “Drive” America to Fund Clean Water Worldwide

Hi, I’m Clay Phillips

I love a road trip and I love golf.  I’m going to pay all the costs involved in attempting to play a round of golf in 50 states over 50 consecutive days.  I’m hoping to feel less guilty about doing this self-indulgent escapade by making it something of higher value through gathering supporters (you) to give their money for a great cause.

ALL the money that is donated will go toward what may be the best bang-for-your-buck charity available:

Provide clean readily accessible water where there isn’t any!!!

None of your donation will go toward my travel, lodging, food, or golf costs, because I’m committed to paying for the pleasure of attempting this.

WHY THIS IS A REALLY GOOD CAUSE

Clean water saves lives.

It makes people healthier by eliminating water borne diseases and promoting better sanitation. Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.  43% of those deaths are children under five years old.

Clean water gives people more time.

When people no longer have to walk many miles each day to access water for household tasks like cooking, cleaning, and washing, they are freed to grow food, attend school, enter the workforce, and to better their families, communities and national economies.  In Africa alone, women spend 40 billion hours a year walking for water.  Yes, 40 BILLION.

Clean water helps end the Poverty Cycle.

As more people are able to enter the workforce and people are healthier, the economy of a country grows and the revolving cycle of poverty is stopped.  People and countries become less dependent on “hand-outs” and emergency relief from more affluent countries and become more self-sufficient and independent. This isn’t a temporary, short-term fix; it’s a deal changer.

You have the choice of TWO very reputable non-profit partners:

Covenant World Relief - Project Blue &  Water First International

Project Blue is associated with the Covenant Church, a Christian denomination based in Chicago. Water First is a non-religious charity based in Seattle. I have seen first hand how both organizations work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each location whether it’s a well, piped system, BioSand Filter, or rainwater harvesting.

With every water point funded the local partners coordinate sanitation and hygiene training while establishing a local Water Committee to help keep water flowing permanently. (Did you know 35 to 50% of water projects fail after a few years due to neglect?)  Your contribution will go directly to fix the problem AND assure that it’s a long-term fix!
